My Spirit Shirt

Side note: Thanks to everyone who entered the Epic Grace book giveaway! The winner is…Stephanie Brown! Congrats!

Well, this was my first outfit as a 3-years-away-from-30-year-old. I make jokes about my “fashion” posts (yep, still in quotes) here on the blog, but I really do love clothes. I have to tell you that I was really excited about this outfit because I got this shirt for my birthday. A shirt I’ve been daydreaming about.

Funny story about this shirt.

My friend Lesli has a great sense of style. Almost every time I see her I say something like, “That belongs in my closet” or “I need to own that.” It’s become a cliche, I say it so often. And twice I have found myself on a mission to own items I saw her wear.

It’s a little embarrassing but I like to think of it as shopper savvy. I love clothes but shopping for them tends to stress me out. I have to be in a major shopping mood. If I’m not, I don’t really like hunting them down. I like other people to do it for me. So I just let Les do the shopping for herself, I see it on her, ask her where she got it, what brand it is and in what size (we’re similar), and I order it online or just run down to the JcPenny’s and pick it up (that totally happened last week). She’s my stylist and she doesn’t even know it; a stylist I pay in friendship and coffee.

She was wearing this shirt one day and I’m going to admit that I drooled a little. Or a lot. Seriously. Have you ever heard of people having “spirit animals?” This is my spirit shirt. It encompasses everything I want in a shirt to express who I am on the inside. It’s dainty and lacy, but flowy and bohemian, with a touch of edge because it can pair with something rough like skinny jeans and platform booties. It’s the juxtaposition I feel on the inside of wanting to crochet while riding a Harley.

Is that too poetic for a shirt?

This past Saturday we were celebrating my birthday and Les shows up with a present. Um, guys? My heart sang when I pulled this shirt out of the bag. Totally unexpected, both the present and the heart-singing. I wore it the very next day. And maybe even the next.

Don’t judge.

Thank you for my (our?) shirt, Les. I love it enough to write a whole post about it. Birthday present win!

  • Jaimie - Okay, wow. I need this shirt. How about you copy her, and I'll copy you, k? 🙂 I went on the website to order it right away (because it is everything I've ever dreamed of in a shirt), and don't see it anywhere! Help! Anyway, love your blog – I'm a new reader – and sounds like we have the exact same shopping habits and style 🙂 ReplyCancel

    • Hannah - Aw man, I don't see it on the website either. Maybe you can call the store/email them the post link to see a pic of it and see if they have it in stock, just not on the site and can order over the phone? The brand is Color FX, if that helps. Sorry it's not on the site…I've scoured the internet to try and find it and can't. 🙁

Thanks for reading and commenting and introducing yourself! ReplyCancel

  • Aunie - OK tell me, what kind of camera do you use and how do you edit your photos? Because for not being a "fashion" blogger, your photos are WAY better than any I do… and mine is a regular series for me! I mean, come on. You're perfect!

PS > top left should be your new profile photo ReplyCancel

    • Hannah - Thanks for your compliments, but girl, your fashion posts are solid…don't even compare. 🙂

I'm so glad you asked about my camera and editing! I love technical talk! I use a DSLR (camera that changes lenses). This camera for this shoot is a Nikon D5000. But the butter is in the lens and knowing the manual settings to use it to its fullest potential. I use a 35mm f/1.8. I shoot in manual to get my settings just the way I want. The major key is to have it at that 1.8 f stop in order to get that really blurry background. Then, when I edit, I just pull it into lightroom and just do some small color correcting and sharpening and I'm good to go. ReplyCancel

  • Urban Wife - Spirit shirts are a total thing. Such a seriously awesome blouse! I love how it's so unique, too. ReplyCancel

    • Hannah - Haha! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who believes in spirit shirts! lol ReplyCancel

  • lesli westfall - Ha! Hannah! Influencer in style? Nevah thought that!

Yeah, payback and coffee. You owe me 3 coffee's:

    The Wedges

    The Spirit Shirt

    The Striped Shirt…just sayin'

Wink-wink, High-five! We should wear both shirts at ReWrite Conference, each adding our own style to 'em. We could use it as a marketing tool to get noticed. 🙂 "Writer's at heart, but exude different styles."

    Love ya!
